Regular vacuuming and regular carpet cleaning will not only help to keep the appearance of your carpets and furniture but applying fabric protection is another way to prolong the beauty of your furnishings.

Scotchgard, teflon and other brands of technology were designed to protect your furnishings from stains, dirt and grime.these products surrounds each fibre, providing an invisible shield against dirt and soil. As a result, dirt does not adhere as easily and vacuums up easier. Plus fibre wear from soil abrasion is greatly reduced.

A good example of how carpet or furniture protection products can help is when you have a spill. If you spill red wine and the carpet does not have carpet protection you watch the liquid absorb into the fibres of the carpet and in some cases it will leave a permanent stain. If you spill on the carpet that has been protected you watch the liquid bead on the surface and not absorb into the fabric just like when you wax your car and it rains. This gives you the necessary time to clean up the spill without leaving a permanent stain. A carpet and furniture protection product on your furnishings does not mean that you can ignore the spills until the next time you have your carpets or upholstery cleaned.

Frequently sitting in the same spot on your furniture or walking in the same pathways of your carpet will form wear patterns. Another benefit that you gain from using a protector is that it provides an extra layer of protection and in most cases will prolong the forming of wear patterns. Even with protection it is still very important to rearrange your furniture to prevent wear and to use throw rugs in high traffic areas of your carpet.

In homes with pets you will find that a protector can be of great benefit in providing protection for your carpets and furniture. It protects furnishings from pet stains and repels liquids. It is quite common in a home with pets to have stains like urine, vomit and the protection will provide added repellence to the fabrics. This type of strong protection will prevent permanent staining and in many cases the stains will release with a gentle washing or steam cleaning. The nice thing about this type of protection is that it won’t change the look, feel or breathability of your furnishings

In a lot of cases the benefits of protection are exaggerated and people don’t provide the proper care and maintenance for their furnishings. By understanding that protectors do have some limitations you have the knowledge to provide proper care and as a result will enjoy the benefits for many years.

Carpet has always been a very popular choice for home owners due to the number of advantages it has. It gives character and color to any room in your home, whether you choose a casual ambiance or opt for a more formal and elegant setting, carpet can do the trick. Carpet also provides much extra comfort; the plush feel you get when you are walking around barefoot cant be matched by any other type of floor covering

upright vacs are very good

As much as you would like to preserve your carpet in the best way possible, accidents do and can happen. Spills and stains can mark your carpet permanently, if not given immediate care. Although carpet is relatively low-maintenance, the nature of its material demands a weekly or twice weekly routine carpet clean. As well as that, specific stains need certain concoctions. For example, red wine spills are to be treated with cold water and salt before being vacuumed while acid stains require baking soda, cold water and club soda.

Routine cleaning always begins with vacuuming. It is advised that you vacuum your carpet at least once a week in areas that are rather unused, and twice a week for areas that have high traffic. Consistent vacuuming can preserve your carpet longer because it thwarts the incidence of build up which may cut through the carpet fibers.Remember to empty or replace the bag once it is two thirds full.

Wall to wall carpet vacuuming, especially in large rooms, can be very labor-intensive and time consuming . If it is not done properly, the vacuuming can be pointless. One very good technique is to split the floor by equal sections, run the vacuum cleaner on one section thoroughly before moving on to the next. In this way, you will be certain that no space is left untouched.

DO NOT rush your vacuuming task, especially if you have a plush-type of carpet. The build and materials of plush carpets allow the dust and soils to be easily embedded in to the carpet. One run will not be enough for this type of carpet, so make sure you allow plenty of time for the suction to do its dirty job. In areas of heavy traffic activity such as the living room, go over it a few times with criss-cross strokes.

Newly cleaned carpets can be treated with soil retardants(carpet protector) if you wish to do so, so ask your carpet cleaner if they have this kind of treatment ie scotchgaurd, teflon or any professional carpet protector. Soil retardants or carpet protectors help prevent the re-soiling of carpet, and stops liquid from penetrating to the carpet fibers. Essentially, soil retardants extend the life of your carpet

Lastly, always put a little bit of baking soda into your vacuum bag. Baking soda has been proven to eliminate and prevent unpleasant odors. This will definitely leave your carpet smelling crisp, fresh and clean! Taking care of your carpet could be cumbersome but well worth the effort! Unless you plan on taking up the entire carpet flooring in place of a new one(very costly), you would want to preserve it in the best way possible. Contact KPs to save the life of your carpet flooring!
