A day on the road cleaning carpets around Sydney

Saturday, June 26th, 2010

After a late night watching world cup soccer its time to get out of bed take a shower and get ready for the full day ahead. Its 7 am on a chilly morning in Sydney,i start the van and type in to my sat nav the address of my first job a periodontist surgery in mosman.Traffic is not too bad and i arrive at the job on time at 750 am,i unload the vacuum cleaner ,the portable steam cleaner and other items for the job in hand, this is a regular customer and the job wont take long.I jump in the lift and arrive at reception and am greeted by Pam.I do the pre inspection and can see the carpet will need stretching and inform Pam.

After a thorough vacuum i pre spray the carpet and get ready to steam clean, the area of carpet is only about 70 m2.The job is complete in about 30 minutes and take all the gear back to the van.I proceed to one of my regular coffee shops for a slice a banana bread and a coffee before my next job in crows nest.

Upon arrival i only manage to park some 100 m from the job its a top floor unit with no lift in the building(these ones keep you fit). After meeting the customer and inspect the carpet i return to the van for the pain staking hall of the machine up six flights of stairs. After breaking a sweat we are ready to start the job a two bedroom unit with a sunroom. The carpet is some what old but the end result is very good, the customer is delighted and settles the bill.

Back to the van and back on the road heading towards dee why for a fire and smoke damage job for an insurance company. All seems to be going well until the spit bridge is raised causing a twenty minute delay. Finally i arrive in oaks ave dee why the cause of the problem was a grill that caught fire luckily the tenant managed to put it out with out too much damage.Whilst inspecting the property i make a report for the insurance company listing smoke damage to the walls in the kitchen and lounge, the carpets in the lounge, hall and part of the bedroom are also affected. There is also alot of smoke stains to the leather lounge,an area rug, verticle blinds and the curtains.I take photos of everything before i try to restore any thing,i start to clean the carpets and they come back  to about 70% better but  not enough,so they will have to be replaced.I take all the measurements for the new carpet call the office and make a report, the client is reassured that  her home will be back to normal within a couple of days.

Time for a bit of lunch so down to dee why beach to a great fish and chip shop.

The next job is in harbord just a quick one the removal of nail polish,i get there just after one o’clock get set up and apply a small amount of grease release and rinse it out straight away and continue to blot and rinse until the stain has gone.Yet another happy customer now off to manly to pick up some keys from a real estate for an empty studio apartment, another small job before my last.

I return the keys and head over to Harbord.we get these jobs so often a nervous tenant due to have an inspection the next day.I just dont understand why people let there carpets get so trashed and then expect a miracle from a carpet cleaner, anyway this carpet is polypropylene which always cleans up good. They are very greatfull and now i can head home for an early day but i have an early start in the morning 4am at a popular pub in Manly so there you have just another day in the carpet cleaning world.

Carpet protection

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

Regular vacuuming and regular carpet cleaning will not only help to keep the appearance of your carpets and furniture but applying fabric protection is another way to prolong the beauty of your furnishings.

Scotchgard, teflon and other brands of  technology were designed to protect your furnishings from stains, dirt and grime.these products surrounds each fibre, providing an invisible shield against dirt and soil. As a result, dirt does not adhere as easily and vacuums up easier. Plus fibre wear from soil abrasion is greatly reduced.

A good example of how carpet or furniture protection products can help is when you have a spill. If you spill red wine and the carpet does not have carpet protection you watch the liquid absorb into the fibres of the carpet and in some cases it will leave a permanent stain. If you spill on the carpet that has been protected you watch the liquid bead on the surface and not absorb into the fabric just like when you wax your car and it rains. This gives you the necessary time to clean up the spill without leaving a permanent stain. A carpet and furniture protection product on your furnishings does not mean that you can ignore the spills until the next time you have your carpets or upholstery cleaned.

Frequently sitting in the same spot on your furniture or walking in the same pathways of your carpet will form wear patterns. Another benefit that you gain from using a protector is that it provides an extra layer of protection and in most cases will prolong the forming of wear patterns. Even with protection it is still very important to rearrange your furniture to prevent wear and to use throw rugs in high traffic areas of your carpet.

In homes with pets you will find that a protector can be of great benefit in providing protection for your carpets and furniture. It protects furnishings from pet stains and repels liquids. It is quite common in a home with pets to have stains like urine, vomit and the protection will provide added repellence to the fabrics. This type of strong protection will prevent permanent staining and in many cases the stains will release with a gentle washing or steam cleaning. The nice thing about this type of protection is that it won’t change the look, feel or breathability of your furnishings

In a lot of  cases the benefits of  protection are exaggerated and people don’t provide the proper care and maintenance for their furnishings. By understanding that protectors do have some limitations you have the knowledge to provide proper care and as a result will enjoy the benefits for many years.

Another day out on the road

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

Every day seems to go so quick when your busy but you never get bored out on the road carpet cleaning. The first job of the day is a five seater microsuede sofa in Terrey Hills.I arrive at the house meet the customer and inspect the furniture, its cream colour and looks like it gets a good work out from the kids,I explain what we can do to achieve the best results for this clean. The lady is very excited and leaves me to it.I go to the van and get set up i love cleaning microsuede because it tends to come up really good.I clean the first seating position and call the lady out to see the difference she was totally gob smacked Ï honestly never thought it would come up that good ” she said. You get a good feeling inside and know they are more than happy with the work you are doing. After finishing the clean I write the lady an invoice and she gladly pays and wants a quote to clean the carpets throughout her house. She is happy with the quote and I call the office to make another booking for her.

The next job is a small flood in the Terrey Hills Tavern a local pub, this was caused by a leaking air conditioning unit in the pool room.I go in extract the water and treat with an antimicrobial to prevent any mould developing ,because the carpet is glued to the concrete floor i leave an airmover (carpet dryer) there to speed up drying this is known as top down drying.I see the manager before leaving and tell him i will be back later in the day to check on the drying and pick up the fan.

Its now 10 30 am time for a quick bite to eat and a coffee before the next job.

Now we are off to Pymble to clean the carpets in a large house traffic is good this time of morning so its not too long before i arrive.I knock on the door on time and go through the house noting all the needs for the customer and inspecting the carpet. The lady has a concern for a urine smell in some rooms from her dogs.I explain the method we use to treat the odour and go back to the van to get set up.This job took 3 hours and on completion the customer is happy and pays by visa card i call the office and the transaction is approved.

My next stop is only around the corner a quote for another reasonable sized house.Again i meet the customer and talk through their requirements give them a written quote and head back down to Chatswood to pick up some area rugs to go back the the rug factory to be cleaned.Time is cracking on now and i head back to the Terrey Hills tavern to check on the flood and find the area affected is dry.I can now go back to the factory and drop off the rugs and hand in the days takings and paper work and pick up my job sheets for tomorrow .Another day gone and more happy customers now i can go home and relax with my family.

Carpet and upholstery cleaning at Jonahs

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

I love been a carpet cleaner and heres one reason why.Another sunny day in Sydney and my first job is at Jonahs restaurant over looking the cliffs at Palm beach. With over 30,000 customers coming through this restaurant its important to keep it looking in tip top condition.

Firstly i pre inspect all the carpet looking for stains, chewing gum and wear and tear all round checking joins in the carpet as well.I note all what i see then return back to the van to get the vacuum cleaner.I then vacuum all the carpeted areas, its quiet theraputic to see the difference just from vacuuming.

After that i treat any stains with a pre spotter and the pre spray all the carpet with a cleaning detergent which has a safe ph for all carpets. This is left to dwell while i go back to the van and get the scrubber, this is used to agitate the carpet and loosen the soils.I proceed to do this process admiring the veiws from this fantastic restaurant

I go back to the van and set up the truckmount carpet cleaning machine.I check the oil level on the machine and set up corner gaurds to all the walls and door ways where the hoses will run, these are used to protect paint and plaster from damage by the hoses that run from the truckmount  in the van to the area that is been cleaned.

The next thing i do is roll out the soloution hose from the van to the furthest point of cleaning,on this occasion the distance is 45 meters.I then un roll the vacuum hose to the same point and connect both soloution and vacuum hoses to the wand(the wand is used to inject high pressure water and rinsing agent into the carpet and extract it at the same time). The next thing i do is connect a water hose from the truckmount to a tap ,this will give a constant water supply to the truckmount, the water goes through a heat exchanger and creates continuous temperature of 230 degrees .Heat is important when cleaning carpet, now i begin to steam clean the carpet and it gives you a great feeling to see how clean the carpets are becoming ,when this is done i groom the carpets with a carpet rake, this resets the pile.

Now its time to move on to clean spot marks from the dinning chairs, sofas and out door cushions. Its very enjoyable doing this because they were protected with teflon six months ago all the spots and stains are easily removed.

I see the manager and run through what has been done and make sure he is happy, which he is.I then roll up all the hoses and pack up everything neatly into the van.I drive away feeling very satisfied and proceed to my next job an empty two bed room unit in Mona Vale.
