Its been another busy week in the carpet and upholstery cleaning world and here is how it went.Monday morning I check all the oil levels on both the van and the truckmount and type in the first destination on the sat nav 77 berry st North Sydney a very popular site for KP’s with many units in this building. We attend here at least twice a month for move outs. The time is 750 am and pull up outside the building unload the gear and sign in to the building security. The unit I am cleaning is on the 18th floor and is empty.I proceed to start vacuuming and admire the views of the harbour bridge and the city, soon after this I apply the carpet pre spray and leave it to dwell. When this is done I fill up the steam cleaner with hot water set up and finish the steam cleaning of the carpet in the unit.Job number one done and time to grab a chicken wrap from a favourite cafe of mine in crows nest.

My next job is close by in Chatswood another empty studio apartment, this takes not too long to clean and I am finished in forty minutes.I now head down to the beachside suburb of Dee Why to clean five seats of upholstery,When I arrive I find no lifts and the unit is on the top floor so dragging up a 56kg machine up six flights of stairs really is not fun. I get started and clean the three seater first, the only downside to cleaning upholstery is it can give you back ache.

Job done and another happy customer and time for a late lunch at Dee Why beach to take in the surf.Just one more job to go before I have to clean a pubs carpet later in the night. The next job is in Clontarf and only one room with baby sick so a nice quick job and time to go home and rest up before the pub job.

It is 9 pm and time to head back to North Sydney to the Alberts tavern on Walker st.We clean this pub every two weeks and always have a lot of chewing gum to remove from the carpets.First off I hit all the gum spots with a gel that dissolves the gum.Once this is done I set up the truck mount and connect all the hoses and pre spray the carpets with detergent. Now I get going and steam clean the carpets and melt away all the chewing gum shortly after an hour I have finished,so time to pack up head home and get some shut eye before the next day.

Tuesday mid morning and I am off to Surry Hills to pick up some rugs to be cleaned at our factory.

Mike’s first job is a 5 seater leather clean in St Ives and then he will have to head over to Rosebay to clean 2 separate units for the same customer, one he has moved out and the other he is moving in to.After that he will have to shoot back to Cromer for a fairly large tile and grout clean.

Alan’s first job will be a child care center in Hornsby about 250 square meters of carpet, then back to Chatswood to do a final clean of a water damage job caused by a dishwasher leaking which took place a few days ago.He can then head into Mosman for a move out carpet clean on a one bedroom unit and finish off in Seaforth picking up 5 rugs to come back to the factory to be cleaned.

All this on just the first day of spring. I know in the coming weeks I will have to go out on the road as well to cope with the sheer number of jobs we will be getting. Give us a call for carpet steam cleaning Sydney.

The end of the day is near, then i get a call from the office a flood in woolloomoolloo caused by a dishwasher.

It has flooded one house and leaked in to next door as well,i call the plumber as he is still at the job.

He tells me there is about 2 inches of water in the main house and it is seeping into next door, both houses have floating timber floors.Well i have to go to our yard and pick up 8 airmovers and 2 dehumidifiers before i can go to the job and its now 530 pm.

I get all the gear in the van and head to the job and get there around 630.

I first go to no 8 where the flood started no one is home but a key was left out for me,I go inside and find the lounge and kitchen floors covered in water.I get the van set up ready to extract the water and begin after a good hour most of the water has gone so i go next door and proceed to extract the water from their lounge room.

The majority of the mess has been sucked up now so I apply antimicrobial to the floors and take some moisture readings.

Then I set up the drying equipment in both houses and pack up and explain to the lady the drying will take a few days and both floors will buckle up while drying,so they will have to be replaced, and I will come back in 2 days to check on the drying and take some more moisture readings. Its now 830 so time to head home and have a couple of well earned beers on the way,you just never know what will happen in the carpet cleaning industry.

The carpet cleaning industry is one of the very few industries that has not been regulated, and also has a very low barrier to entry in that anyone can call themselves a “professional” without any basis for that claim. And still these are people who can come into your home and use cleaning chemicals which could be dangerous if you do not have the knowledge of how to use them properly, and more importantly do not have the right equipment to remove them properly.

Everyone has heard nightmare stories about crimes committed, about overuse or improper use of chemicals, and exposés on Bait-and-Switch companies who use a low coupon offers to get their foot in the door and hard sell unsuspecting consumers into a bill they are compelled to pay. When you open the phone book you really can’t tell who the great cleaners are, or the ones you would never EVER want to use. The “great” cleaners work hard to distinguish themselves apart from the fly-by-night companies who use unsafe cleaning practices, hard-sell tactics, and sometimes have very unsavory employees.

Your carpet and rugs act as a “filter” in your home for your indoor air. Their fibers “grab” particulates and contaminants and hold them. But like any filter, it needs to be cleaned because when it gets full it cannot grab anything else … and every time you step on a “full” filter you release contaminants back into the air.

Cleaning your carpet is key to a healthy indoor environment, and the EPA’s guidelines for cleaning very from every four months to every eighteen depending on the number of people and pets in the home, as well as other concerns from allergic sensitivities to how dusty the air is in your neighborhood to whether anyone in the home smokes. A true carpet cleaning professional can evaluate your particular needs, and with the right equipment and cleaning solutions, can fulfill those needs for you and your family.

The question now is how to find that “right” professional … and we have the information to help you do just that.

The following is a summary on how to choose the right professional carpet cleaner. It covers some of the common mistakes made by consumers in choosing a carpet cleaner, and also the four steps you can take to help you in choosing a true “professional.”

MISTAKE #1:When Choosing a carpet cleaner can not based on equipment alone.
No question, your carpet cleaner needs to have first-rate equipment. But he also needs something else, employees who are skilled and trained at operating the equipment. Many companies own hot-water extractors, but very few companies teach their employees how to use them properly. The best way to know that the carpet cleaner’s employees have been properly trained is to make sure the cleaner has been certified by the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) . Before you choose a carpet cleaner, ask to see written proof of their certification.

MISTAKE #2: When Choosing a carpet cleaner based on low price.
Low price could always be a problem in three ways: (1) low price can be the bait that attracts your phone call. But once the carpet cleaner gets into your home, he pressures you into a much more expensive job. (2) Low price can be for “single-process” cleaning. Rarely does the consumer know what this means and, when told, asks for “dual-process” cleaning instead, which costs much much more. (3) Low price means the carpet cleaner has cheap equipment, which cannot match the cleaning performance of the superior machines designed to remove the most soil and contaminants, and leave the least amount of residue behind

MISTAKE #3: When Choosing a carpet cleaner based on a single telephone call.
Instead, invite the person to your home and ask for a written quotation. Then you will know exactly what the carpet cleaner recommends – and you won’t be the victim of high-pressure sales tactics when the technician steps into your home. This also allows the carpet cleaner to see and identify the type of carpet, the level of soil, and measure the exact square meter age so he is able to give you a more accurate quotation.

MISTAKE #4: When Choosing a carpet cleaner who doesn’t offer a money-back guarantee.
Every carpet cleaning company should be fully accountable for its work. And if you aren’t pleased with the job in every way you should be entitled to a reclean or you shouldn’t have to pay for it. Period.

MISTAKE #5:When Choosing a carpet cleaner without getting comments from his other clients.
Any carpet cleaner could say anything about his past jobs. And, sadly, some of what he says may not be true. Make sure you ask for references or read comments from current customers so you can depend on the carpet cleaner and the quality of his work.
